OUR FOUNDATION's History
Our Journey: Building Safer Communities Since 1993
Our Story
In May 1993, five-year-old Alie Berrelez was abducted and murdered in Colorado. Her body was found days later in a remote canyon—a tragedy that shocked the community and changed lives forever. Alie’s family and friends, determined to honor her memory and protect other children, founded the ALIE Foundation.
Quoting The Denver Post from May 23, 1993:
“We found exactly what we didn’t want to find,” said Englewood police Sgt. Byron Wicks. “A new search has begun for her killer, and the person will be found.”
This story remains at the heart of our mission. We advocate for child safety, provide educational programs for families and children, and support search-and-rescue efforts across Colorado.
